How to become a cam model

What the work is, how the two ways of getting paid on a cam site differ, and what the 38 platforms on file here record about broadcasting. There are no earnings figures on this page, and the last section says why.

What the job is

Camming is performing live to an audience that pays, either by the minute or by sending tips from a wallet they topped up in advance. You broadcast from your own space, on your own schedule, to whoever happens to be in the room. There is no shift and no minimum, and there is also no floor: an empty room pays nothing, and the work of filling one is most of the job.

Two things follow from that and they are the ones people are most often surprised by. The first is that it is a marketing job as much as a performing one. Time spent in free chat, on social accounts and on a fan club is time spent getting somebody to book a private later. The second is that income is lumpy. A good night and a dead night are both normal, the ratio between them is not something anybody can promise you, and a platform that quotes you an hourly rate is quoting an average of other people.

The mechanics are ordinary. You need a computer that can encode video, a camera, an internet connection with enough upload, a room you are willing to be seen in, and identity documents. Expect to prove your age and identity with documents before you can stream anywhere: the record-keeping rules that bind whoever publishes the video require it, which is the same regime this site's own 2257 pagedescribes. What a given platform asks for is not recorded here, and the section on what is missing says so rather than guessing at it.

Free chat and private shows pay differently

This is the part worth understanding before choosing a platform, because it is the difference between two business models rather than two price points. Of the 38 live platforms on file, 27 record that their rooms are free to enter, 4 record that entry is paid, and 7 have not been checked either way.

In a free chat room anybody can watch without paying. Nothing is billed by the minute, and the money arrives as tips: a viewer buys tokens or credits up front and spends them on whatever they want to spend them on. The room is a shop window. It pays unevenly and it rewards a crowd.

In a private show one viewer is billed for every minute they stay. It is the predictable half of the income and the small half of the audience. The rate is where the platforms differ, and the recorded difference is who sets it: 19 of the 38 files record a rate the performer sets, 3 record one the platform fixes, 5 bill a subscription rather than by the minute, and 11 record no rate model at all.

A performer-set rate means you choose your own per-minute price and compete on it. A fixed rate means everybody on the platform charges the same and you compete on everything else. Neither is better in the abstract. A high rate on a platform with thin traffic and a low rate on a busy one can land in the same place, and this site holds no traffic figures for any platform, so nobody here can tell you which.

Beyond those two there are the other paid formats, and how many of the 38 files record each one is a rough map of what is standard: private shows on 12, recorded videos on 10, group shows on 5, cam to cam on 5, interactive toys on 4, spy mode on 3, a fan club on 2 and ticketed shows on 1. A format missing from a platform's file means nobody has recorded it, never that the platform refuses it: the dataset records what a platform has and has no way to state an absence.

Among the 12 programmes listed here, SinParty fixes the private rate rather than leaving it to the performer, 8 leave it to you, and 3 record no rate model.

Independent or through a studio

You can sign up to a platform directly, or you can work through a studio that handles the account, the space and sometimes the promotion in exchange for a cut of what you earn. The trade is the obvious one: less of the money, and less of the administration and the risk of an empty room on a night you did not want to work.

The thing to establish before agreeing to anything is who owns the account. An account in a studio's name is one you cannot take with you, along with the audience attached to it, and that is a question to ask on the first day rather than the last. What each platform allows here is not recorded on this site either.

Either way the money is self-employment income and it is taxable where you live. That is general and it is the one piece of general advice on this page worth repeating: keep records from the first payout rather than from the first tax return.

What is not on this page, and why

No earnings figures, and no payout terms for any platform. Not a percentage, not a schedule, not a minimum, not a payment method, not the ID a given site asks for. The dataset behind this site records what a viewer spends, in 38 files, each with the date somebody read it. Nothing in it records what comes back the other way.

That gap is tracked rather than ignored, and it is the reason this section has a guide and a directory and no comparison. The day those terms are recorded, with a date and a method against each one, every programme page here fills in and this page gains the table it wants. Until then a page that put a number in that space would be inventing the single figure a reader would act on hardest.

There are also no earnings estimates, and that is a separate refusal. What one performer makes is a function of hours, niche, timezone and luck, no platform publishes it, and an average dressed up as a forecast is the least honest thing this site could print.

One dataset, copied here read-only on 2026-09-20. Each figure carries its own checked-on date, and says whether it was read at a logged-in checkout or off a published page.

Which platforms this site can refer you to

12 platforms on file run a broadcaster referral programme I hold a link for, which is 12 of 38. They are listed A to Z on the section page, each with what its own file records and the same gaps named. I am paid by the platform when a referral signs up, it comes out of their side rather than your earnings, and it is stated on every page here that carries a link.

Figures on this page were counted from the 2026 snapshot of the dataset at build time, so they move when it does.
